Johannesburg - President of new Cosatu affiliate Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (LIMUSA) Sifiso Maphumulo, who died in a car accident will be laid to rest in KwaMakhutha, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

Maphumulo was travelling with union secretary general Cedric Gina, spokesperson Mawonga Madolo and another union official, Mmusi Serobatse when their vehicle overturned along the N3 near Escourt last week.

Gina, Mdolo and Serobatse escaped with minor injuries.

The four were travelling to Johannesburg to hold the union’s first press conference at Cosatu headquarters in Braamfontein.

Speakers at the funeral include Congress of SA Trade Unions (Cosatu) president Sidumo Dlamini, ANC treasurer Zweli Mkhize and KwaZulu-Natal safety and security MEC Willies Mchunu.
