Johannesburg - Mineral Resources Minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi held talks with Amcu leaders in Pretoria on Tuesday, his office said.

The meeting was part of efforts to resolve the current impasse in wage negations in the platinum sector.

“I am encouraged by the progress we have made on this matter, and the co-operation of all parties involved,” he said in a statement.

The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) was represented at the meeting by its president Joseph Mathunjwa, treasurer Jimmy Gama, and advocate Dali Mpofu.

Amcu members at Lonmin, Impala Platinum, and Anglo American Platinum downed tools on January 23 demanding a basic monthly salary of R12 500.

They rejected the companies' offer that would bring their cash remuneration to R12 500 by July 2017.
