Johannesburg - The price of petrol will increase by 29 cents from Wednesday, the department of energy said on Friday.

The increase was due to changes in crude oil prices, the rand-dollar exchange rate and the prices of finished products, said spokesman Johannes Mokobane.

He said the rand depreciated from US10.40 to US10.68 during the period under review.

“Furthermore, the crude oil price increased on average during the period under review and climbed to the highest level since September last year.”

The price of crude oil peaked at more than US115 a barrel on June 19.

Mokobane said the 29 cents a litre increase was for 93 unleaded and lead replacement petrol.

There would be a 31 cents a litre increase for 95 ULP and LRP.

The prices of diesel, illuminating paraffin and LPG would also increase on Wednesday, he said.

The diesel price would go up 14 cents a litre, that of illuminating paraffin 31 cents a litre, and LPG by 58 cents a kilogram. - Sapa
