PPI up 3.6% in May

Pretoria - South Africa’s producer price inflation (PPI) for final manufactured goods, or factory gate prices, was up to 3.6% year-on-year in May, from 3% in April. On a monthly basis it increased by 0.8%.

Statistics SA said on Thursday the main contributors to the annual increase were food, beverages and tobacco products as well as metals, machinery, equipment and computing equipment. The main contributors to the monthly increase were food, beverages and tobacco products.

The annual percentage change for producer price inflation for electricity and water was was 9,9% in May from 10,4% in April. On a monthly basis it increased by 0.9% in May.
