Avusa’s Nu-Metro cinemas face further competition as rival Ster-Kinekor rolls out the conversion of all its cinema screens to digital. Ster-Kinekor is owned by Primedia, which said yesterday that it had partnered with digital cinema expert Arts Alliance Media to convert 400 screens at 59 sites countrywide within the next 12 months. Ster-Kinekor chief executive Fiaz Mahomed said: “The investment into the digital conversion in our cinemas will mean rapid… release of movie titles as well as alternative content such as sporting events and live concerts.” There would be more three-dimensional content screened, better picture quality, new film genres and a closer alignment of local release dates with international ones, he said. – Asha Speckman
