Johannesburg - Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa has called for public input on a report on the country's greenhouse gas inventory, the department said on Tuesday.

Members of the public had until Sunday, July 6 to comment on the national greenhouse gas inventory for South Africa for the period 2000 to 2010.

The inventory was published for public comment on June 6 in Government Gazette No 37701, the department said in a statement.

The report was compiled to meet the country's obligation to report its greenhouse emissions to international climate change bodies.

“The report summarises the aggregated greenhouse gas (GHG) trends by gas and emission source (and) details explanations of the emissions.”

According to the report the GHG inventory emissions in South Africa, excluding the land sub-sector, increased by 24.9 percent between 2000 and 2010. - Sapa
