An employee of a gold refinery in Germiston has been arrested after being found with one kilogram of stolen gold nuggets, the Hawks said on Thursday.

Hawks spokesman Paul Ramaloko said police arrested the man at Rand Refinery on Wednesday after receiving information about the crime.

The man had the gold nuggets, worth an estimated R500,000, with him at the time of his arrest.

He will appear in the Germiston Magistrate's court soon on charges of theft and the illegal possession of gold. -Sapa
