Retail sales in semi-durable goods such as clothing, footwear, toys and CDs, continue to outperform sales of durable and non-durable goods. These are the findings of a retail trends survey conducted by the Bureau of Economic Research and Ernst &Young and released yesterday. The figures indicate that festive season sales in durable and non-durable goods will remain under pressure. The survey also forecasts that overall retail volume growth will come in well below the robust growth rates recorded during the 2010 and 2011 festive seasons. – Nompumelelo Magwaza
