Johannesburg - All 450 illegally retrenched workers at the Supreme Poultry company in Mahikeng will be going back to work, Cosatu said on Friday.
“The Congress of SA Trade Unions and Saccawu is happy that all 450 workers illegally retrenched for shortage of water at the Supreme Poultry company in Mahikeng are now going back to work,” said Cosatu provincial secretary Solly Phetoe in a statement.
“All workers will be going back to work with improvement of salaries as per sectoral determination, which the employer did not implement including not paying UIF accordingly.”
The meeting between the federation, the company and municipality resolved that issues of water shortages at the factory should not be used against workers who had no control over the provision of water to the company.
“It was also confirmed that the company was working as their best union was deregistered long ago.
“We will now pursue the refunding of workers' money that was paid to the that union and call for the department of labour to take action against the union,” said Phetoe. - Sapa
