SA formal sector adds 10‚000 jobs

The number of people employed in the formal non-agricultural sector of the economy increased by about 10‚000 from 8.430 million in the quarter ended June to an estimated 8.440 million in the third quarter‚ Statistics SA’s September Quarterly Employment Statistics (QES) survey showed on Tuesday.

Gross earnings paid to employees during the quarter ended September amounted to R369.9bn‚ reflecting a quarterly increase of R17.4bn‚ or 4.9%‚ compared with the quarter ended June.

The survey showed that an estimated 8.440 million people were employed in the formal non-agricultural sector of the South African economy in the quarter ending September this year‚ reflecting an annual increase of about 82‚000 employees compared with September last year.

The gross earnings paid to employees during the quarter ended September amounted to R369.9bn‚ reflecting an annual increase of R29.5bn compared with the quarter ended September 2011. - I-Net Bridge
