South African producer inflation, which represents domestic output, slowed to 6.6 percent year-on-year in April from 7.2 percent in March, Statistics South Africa said on Thursday.
On a month-on-month basis inflation was at 0.3 percent after prices fell by 0.1 percent in March.
Economists polled by Reuters expected PPI to slow to 6.9 percent year-on-year and to quicken to 0.5 percent on a monthly basis.
