Shaheed’s success proves that sometimes no experience is a valuable asset. In a saturated market, he identified a niche and by marrying technology with tourism, he has customised his Escape to the Cape offering for the discerning techno-savvy traveller.

With a B.Com degree, he worked locally and overseas in the printing and banking industries and during a year of cancer treatment, decided to start his own business.

His love and knowledge of Cape Town, coupled with his passion for people, made tourism an obvious choice. He completed a tour guide course in 2009 and with mentoring from the Tourism Enterprise Partnership (TEP), focusing on affordability and attention to detail, he founded Escape to the Cape in 2010, but too late to capitalise on the tourism trade surrounding the 2010 World Cup.

Undaunted, he set about delivering service excellence and pioneering a number of technological innovations. He grew his business and this year won the Emerging Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

His touring vehicle is more than a luxury, air-conditioned, comprehensively insured minibus. It is equipped with satellite tracking for added safety, a quality public address system and a fridge to keep refreshments hot or cold.

An innovative service is the free onboard wi-fi, iPad and laptop installations with a range of applications for all ages. Tourists can access multiple cellphone and laptop charging facilities and have 3G internet access, use a cellphone with local SIM card and free calls from the bus to the US.

Escape to the Cape provides clients with a digital camera for use during the tour and Ebrahim supplies a complimentary USB/DVD packed with photo memories when guests leave.

Escape to the Cape offers a range of fully inclusive, affordable tours including Cape Town city tours, child-friendly tours, Garden Route experiences and adventure and extreme destinations. Tours take you off the beaten track so that you can experience the pulse of South Africa away from the commercial tourist hot spots.

Tourists report that it’s the small details, coupled with style and sophistication, that make the difference.

All quotations are fully inclusive without any hidden costs, light snacks, bottled water, and lunch are part of the package and flexible itineraries are tailored to suit the needs of travellers with children.

Escape to the Cape, a complete destination management service, also offers shuttle services, accommodation arrangements and business services to its growing customer base. With a professional team whose passion is people interaction and promoting brand South Africa, the success of Escape to the Cape is confirmation that the local economy offers fertile ground for young, ambitious and hard-working people determined to contribute positively towards growing our economy and showcasing our country.

Tourists say: “If you are planning to discover South Africa, let the Escape to the Cape team host you in making memories to last a lifetime.”
