A company has released a smart e-cigarette that it says can predict how much longer a user will live.

The Smokio connects to a smartphone app and tracks usage, giving the user updates on his or her health and finances over time.

The company says the device will save smokers money, and help them give up real cigarettes.

Inside the Smokio is a small microchip that transmits data over Bluetooth to an app available for Android and iOS.

Users can view statistics over 30 days to see what their vaping – breathing nicotine-infused e-cigarette liquid – habits are. The device costs E80 (R1 165) and includes a battery that can hold about seven hours of charge.

The device’s electronic brain lets users track usage and check where and when they inhaled.

The app shows the equivalent consumption that would have been smoked with cigarettes and reveals how users’ health would differ if they had continued smoking tobacco.

This includes blood oxygenation levels, taste and smell, lung capacity and heart rejuvenation.

Through this information the app then estimates how many days the user has added to his or her life expectancy.

The data could be called into question as the effects of e-cigarettes are still largely unknown, with various agencies still performing studies. – Daily Mail
