The Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (Sactwu) had settled its wage negotiations in the non-woven textile sector, the union said yesterday. “The settlement package is 7.75 percent, covering wages and an improvement on annual bonus,” Sactwu general secretary Andre Kriel said. The trade union’s final package demand was 8 percent. “The agreement was reached under the auspices of the national textile bargaining council, between Sactwu and the national textile manufacturers,” Kriel said. About 1 000 workers in 15 factories nationally would benefit from the pay increase. The increase would be backdated to the beginning of this month. – Sapa
