A wage deal had been reached between carpet makers and the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (Sactwu), general secretary Andre Kriel said yesterday. “A dispute was declared after the third round and a settlement was reached during conciliation on June 25. The settlement package is 7.75 percent, covering a wage increase and an improved service allowance.” The union had wanted 8 percent. Kriel said about “1 000 workers from four factories, nationally, will benefit from this increase”. The settlement, effective on July 1, was reached under the auspices of the national textile bargaining council. – Sapa
