Alstom, the French engineering company which is selling most of its energy equipment businesses to General Electric to focus on train-making operations, has been charged with corruption by UK prosecutors after a five-year investigation. The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) announced yesterday that it would bring six charges of corruption and conspiracy to corrupt against Alstom’s UK subsidiary. The alleged offences occurred in relation to transport projects in India, Poland and Tunisia between June 2000 and November 2006, the SFO said. Alstom said it was “in ongoing communications with the SFO about its investigation”. – Bloomberg
