The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced that tax return filing season for individuals will start on Friday, July 1, and will run until Friday, November 25, for taxpayers who use eFiling.

If you plan to submit a paper tax return by post or by dropping it off at a SARS branch, the deadline is Friday, September 30.

Provisional taxpayers will have until Tuesday, January 31 next year, to file their returns if they use eFiling.

Employers had until June 3 to submit to SARS data about your earnings and the tax deducted. SARS says a record number of employers, 235 882, filed their annual reconciliation declarations on time.

Last year by this time 212 969 employers had filed their declarations.

Employer declarations were accompanied by 14 817 176 IRP5 certificates, which SARS uses to pre-populate your income tax returns.
