TWO more ATMs have been blown up in Goodwood – the third ATM explosion in the past two weeks.
The two Absa ATMs near the 7-Eleven on the corner of Milton Road and Vasco Boulevard were targeted early this morning.
A witness, Wayne van Doesburgh, deputy chairman of the Goodwood Community Police Forum, said today that he woke at 3.10am to the sound of a loud explosion. He jumped out of bed and ran outside.
He said he saw three men fiddling at one of the ATMs. They saw him and fled in a car parked close by.
Van Doesburgh saw blue police lights flashing a few metres away and flagged the car down. They were unable to catch up to the getaway car. Provincial police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that two ATMs were damaged by explosions, but it was not known whether any cash had been taken. He said the suspects fled in a white car and “are still at large”.
This week, an ATM outside the Kwikspar at Tyger Manor Centre was blown up and cash stolen in Bellville. Last week an ATM at the KTC Spar in Gugulethu was also blown up.
