Boy, 13, injured during Lion's Head fall

Cape Town – A 13-year-old boy is being treated at Groote Schuur hospital after falling while hiking Lion's Head on Freedom Day.

He sustained head injuries by falling approximately 10 metres before being airlifted to hospital for further medical attention.

Mountain Safety issued an initial tweet saying: "Rescue of two hikers under way. #lionshead"

Merle Collins, Cape regional spokesperson for South African National Parks, confirmed that the incident took place.

"A 13-year-old local boy was part of school group from Ryland's High School when he feel about 10 metres on Lion's Head. He sustained head injuries and had to be airlifted to Groote Schuur Hosptial."
