Fan Walk fanfare for Norway friendlyComment on this story
Cape Town – Tickets for Bafana Bafana’s match against Norway at Cape Town Stadium in January have gone on sale and are expected to be snapped up by locals starved of live international soccer.
The City of Cape Town said the match was scheduled for 8.15pm on January 8.
“A full Fan Walk activation along Somerset Road in Green Point will be in operation, and fans can expect to be enthralled by the colourful sights and sounds we all remember from the 2010 World Cup,” a source said.
General seating tickets are priced at R50 and R100 and are available from Computicket.
Meanwhile, Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula – or Mr Razzmatazz, as he’s also known in some circles – has promised that the Afcon soccer tournament next year will be a “real humdinger”.
He said marketing and publicity for the event would soon get under way using funds from various cities in addition to contributions from the Treasury.
Mbalula – who was responding to questions in the National Assembly on Wednesday – promised MPs the event would be “a humdinger”.
IFP MP Mkhuleko Hlengwa expressed concern that “Afcon is a few weeks away, but there is a general silence in South Africa”.
“What’s going to be done?” he asked.
Mbalula responded: “You are going to see visibility and marketing of Afcon like you’ve never seen it before.
“It’s not going to be razzmatazz, but a humdinger. We are approaching exciting moments.”
Just over R130 million from various cities had been set aside to market the event, in addition to the R200m allocated by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan in his medium-term budget last month. Cape Town will not host any Afcon games. – Cape Argus
