Manhunt after four blow up ATM

Police investigators comb the scene of a bombing attack on an automatic teller machine in Caravelle Street, Rocklands, in Mitchells Plain.

They are hunting for four armed men who blew up an Absa ATM at a BP filling station early this morning.

The bombers damaged the ATM with explosives but were unable to extract any cash from it. Witnesses said they heard two blasts.

The robbers fired shots at filling station staff, including the till operator, but the latter was behind bulletproof glass. Nobody was injured, said police spokesman Warrant Officer November Filander.

The bombers fled the scene in a white Toyota Camry. The Absa ATM was alongside a Nedbank ATM, which wasn’t touched.
