Cape Town – Train commuters may want to find another route home as Metrorail continues to suffer delays as a result of power failures at a number of signal boxes across its lines.

The delays on Monday night were reportedly behind the mass destruction of trains and other infrastructure at Cape Town Station.

But ongoing disruptions to Metrorail's service meant further delays on Tuesday afternoon.

Congestion on the Mother City's roads became a nightmare for road commuters who opted not to travel by train on Tuesday morning.

By Tuesday afternoon, Metrorail's Southern Line was delayed by up to 40mins.

The Northern Line was experiencing delays of about 30mins.

And the Central Line had a 40-50min delay.
