Olympians get heroes’ welcome

Team SA’s Olympians returned home to a heroes’ welcome at OR Tambo International Airport today.

Vuvuzelas blared, women ululated and schoolgirls shrieked as gold medallists Cameron van der Burgh and Chad le Clos arrived to greet their returning teammates.

One girl asked Le Clos to take her to her matric dance.

“Ja, I think I can do that,” he replied, to her delight.

Pretoria resident William Mukwevho said: “They were flying the SA flag very high…The government should invest more money in sport so we can win more medals.”

Lead SA and the Department of Sport had asked the public to give the team a heroes’ welcome.
