Police investigate death by electrocution on train tracks

Cape Town - Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 21-year-old man who appeared to have shocked to death.

Police spokesperson Sinathi Joni said the man died in Cloetesville. 

“The case is under investigation, an inquest docket has been opened,” said Joni.

ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen said the man was killed after an apparent electrocution close to Du Toit train station. They received a call at 4.57pm and arrived at the scene just after 5pm. 

"Upon arrival at the scene there was a large number of people surrounding the deceased, who was lying next to the train tracks."

Another ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said it was unclear how the electrocution happened. 

"There were different stories about what happened from different groups who were there when our paramedics team arrived," Vermaak said.
