Philip Emslie won both the 3km and one mile (1.6km) races at the annual Cadiz Brian Curtis Mile near Grabouw, raising money for disadvantaged athletes.
TOP SA open water swimmer Philip Emslie took double honours by winning the 3km and one mile (1.6km) races at the annual Cadiz Brian Curtis Mile near Grabouw yesterday.
It raised R20 000 for disadvantaged athletes under the Open Water Development Trust. Emslie, 27, who will represent South Africa at the World Masters Champs in Italy in June, described both races as “tough, but enjoyable”.
“I put my head down in both races and managed to break away from the pack,” he said.
He finished the 3km in 38 minutes, 10 seconds and the mile in 21 minutes, 32 seconds.
Dominique Dryding, 19, was the first woman home in both the 3km (40 minutes, 30 seconds) and the mile 23 minutes, 36 seconds.
The event, held at Eikenhof dam near Grabouw, is held in memory of Brian Curtis, one of the founding directors of Cadiz Holdings Limited.
