Cape Town -

The ANC is the greatest miracle South Africa has witnessed, says ANC Women’s League president Angie Motshekga.

She addressed a crowd of hundreds of people - predominantly young people - at the ANC Freedom Day rally at the sports grounds in Mfuleni on Sunday.

Motshekga visited Limpopo, the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape at the weekend, assessing the party’s support for the May 7 elections.

“The ANC is the greatest miracle that has happened to this country in the past century. It is the mother of liberation, it is the mother of struggle and it is the future of this country,” she said.

She called on young South Africans to join the party because “the ANC is their future”.

Motshekga said all eight provinces except for the Western Cape were a sure win for the ANC.

“We have eight provinces in the bag. In the Western Cape, we are fighting - it is 50/50,” she said.

Motshekga said the ANC would “surprise everybody and take the province”.

“I am clear all the eight other provinces are in the bag and Gauteng is secured, but here (in the Western Cape) it is a tussle,” she said.

Motshekga commended Ses’Khona leaders Andile Lili and Loyiso Nkohla for protesting for better sanitation in Cape Town.

Earlier this year the ANC suspended Lili and expelled Nkohla from the party, but it has since overturned its decision.

The crowd erupted every time Lili’s and Nkohla’s names were called out, and many people wore T-shirts with a Ses’Khona logo. “We cannot have people still using the bucket system,” Motshekga said.
