THE annual music extravaganza Music Alla Kaap returns for its third year running at the GrandWest Arena on September 27 at 8pm.

The production will celebrate local music icons alongside some of the best mother city entertainers with veteran stage, film and television star Shaleen Surtie-Richards as host.

Surtie-Richards was recently seen in Lara Foot’s adaptation of Scrooge, and was the MC at the 10th Cape Town Comedy Festival.

Performers on the bill include Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Alvon Collison, Nur Abrahams, Karin Kortje, Sophia Foster, Salome and a six-piece band headed up by music director Trevino Isaacs with, Donveno Prins on saxophone, Ryan Kierman trombone, Lorenzo Blignaught trumpet, Jason de Laney guitar and Melvin Williams on bass. Music Alla Kaap is being produced by Alistair Izobell, who will also perform.

Singing sensation Salome Johansen has performed in various cities with Madame Zingara, and formed part of the Diva Tour. She has worked with industry producers such as Aubrey Arries and Molly Barron when recording her album Love Songs & Love Letters.

Sophia Foster has performed internationally and to local audiences over the past four decades.

She has starred in numerous musical extravaganzas, but it’s her one-woman shows that have earned Foster her greatest acclaim. She’s been compared to Billy Holiday, Lena Horn and Shirley Bassey.

Vocalist Karin Kortje joins the ensemble with her powerful singing voice, and suave vocalist Nur Abrahams brings nuances heard as a member of the band JAG.

Cape Town’s legendary “Mr Showbiz”, all-round entertainer Alvon Collison, will also contribute his customary stage style, as will musician Mabuse, who is marking the 30th anniversary of his hit-making song Burn Out.
