HUNDREDS of celebrities are expected at the Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday.
The Met is one of the top events on the city’s calendar and 40 000 tickets have been sold for the extravaganza. The VIP section will be filled to capacity.
While the celebrities are expected to be dressed to the nines, thousands of people in the stands and on the lawn will also be partying and dressed in style.
The event is
part thoroughbred racing, part summer party with a mixture of worldclass entertainment thrown in.
J&B Met publicist Eddy Cassar said: “We are flying in 308 celebrities and media people on Friday. This year will have the most marquees and no doubt will be the best J&B Met Cape Town has seen.”
Deemed South Africa’s longest-running and biggest horseracing event, the theme is “rare blend” – in which the different and unexpected are expected to collide and bring forth unique and stylish creations.
Screen and radio personalities are spreading the excitement on social media with their style tips.
Cape Town comedian and official host Kurt Schoonraad says he is honoured and looking forward to the event and will do his best to represent Cape Town, even though he is not a fashion-conscious person.
“Rare-blended to me is combining things that normally don’t go together, that’s what you get when you host celebrations like this.
“So in a sense we are celebrating the blending of diversity,” said Schoonraad.
Cassar said there would be DJs and music talent for the massive party after the last race at the main marquee, and that guests can expect the party to continue well into the night.
