THE Artscape Heritage 
Festival (September 24-30)

Celebrate Mzansi’s rich culture at the 2016 Artscape Heritage Festival, which takes place from Saturday until next Friday.

12:00: Screening of Action Kommandant: The Untold Story of a Guerrilla

13:30-16:00: 10th Rural Art Exhibition 17:00: 1976 Spirits

20:00: Legends Passing the Baton

Flight of Dreams

The Princess Vlei Forum will be celebrating in feathery style this year with their annual Flight of Dreams parade.

This annual event is held to create awareness about the beautiful wetland birds and other features at Princess Vlei and the surrounding wetland areas.

It is also an opportunity for local youth to display their talent in creative storytelling, music and visual arts.

At 3pm a parade of giant bird puppets and headdresses created by local schoolchildren will be led by the Fairmont High marching band.

It will start at League of Friends of the Blind, down 1st Avenue to Princess Vlei.

There will be a performance by the band and by the Lotus High storytelling group.

Performances will be followed by a drumming circle and an art display on the shores of the Vlei.

Manouche Live at the Bay Harbour market (Sept 24)

The Bay Harbour market is keeping things local this Heritage Day with a spit braai and saucy swing music.

Manouche will be playing some of their jazzy hits live at the market.

The Bay Harbour market will be open from 9.30am to 4pm on Saturday.

Cape Town Fringe 
Festival (Sept 22 – Oct 8)

The Cape Town Fringe Festival is taking place at various venues around the Mother City. Cape Town City Hall will act as hub for the main events.

Live Loud Music Concert (Sept 24)

Rock out to local bands, singers and DJs at this epic 13-hour long concert that 
showcases the best musical 
talent in the country this Heritage Day.

Live performances by Black Coffee, Al Bairre, Goodluck, TiMO ODV and more.

Sophiatown Heritage Day Commemoration at 
The River Club

Soul Lekker Africa invites you to commemorate Heritage Day with them at Slug and

In_Herit Festival at Iziko Museums

The Iziko family are holding a week-long festival of family-fun activities.

The event features historical tours educating the public about the origins of the Khoi culture, slavery and the protection of our heritage, as well as an amazing race at Groot Constantia and an interactive pottery workshop.

It started on Monday and ends on Sunday. It takes place from 10am to 5pm.

West Bank will host a sports day at Rainbow 
Primary School

Cultural games like “Nickies”, “Bok Bok”, “Kenneties” and others will be the order of the day.

The event starts at 10am and ends at 2pm.

Entry is free.

Firgrove and Helderzicht will be celebrating 40- and 60-year anniversaries respectively

In Firgrove, the celebrations start at 10am in an open field in the middle of the suburb, whereas in Helderzicht they start at 11am, where the venue is Victoria Park next to Playway Pre-Primary School.

Entrance is free.

Stigting vir Bemagtiging deur Afrikaans is hosting a walk in Bo-Kaap

The event is Stap innie Bokaap at Boorhaarnol Centre, 26 Pentz Street, Bo-Kaap on Saturday at 10am.

Entrance is free, but registration is from 7.30am to 9.30am.

The aim is to bring awareness of Afrikaans at grass roots level.

There will also be a funny walk through the streets of Bo-Kaap.

This is about bringing the community together through Afrikaans.
