Cape Town - Mandrax tablets found hidden inside a child’s scooter were among drugs seized during a police raid at a Pelican Heights house.

The child’s parents, both 30 years old, were arrested after drugs to the value of R100 000 were found at the house in the affluent area near Mitchells Plain on Monday.

Police spokesman Frederick van Wyk said members of the Mitchells Plain Organised Crime Unit confiscated 740 sachets of tik, 100g of raw tik that had yet to be processed, 1 560 mandrax tablets, a 9mm Luger with ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash.

“A huge amount of the mandrax tablets, in plastic, were found stashed away in certain parts of the couple’s son’s baby scooter bicycle. Among the usual mandrax tablets marked with a B, meaning it’s either Boss or Bentley type of mandrax tablets… a tablet marked E for eagle, has emerged.”

Mitchells Plain cluster commander Jeremy Vearey said the eagle tablet was new on the drug market.

“From the beginning of 2014 we noticed that this mandrax tablet has an eagle insignia on it. We request assistance from the public.

“Information from Cape Flats areas directed us several times to affluent areas where residents don’t give us information.”

He appealed to residents in affluent areas to be vigilant.

“It is time that residents know their neighbours… Residents’ support is crucial.”

Van Wyk said the couple was linked to a “well-known drug dealer” who had served time in prison for dealing.

They would appear soon in Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court.
