INTERNATIONALLY renown seven piece band, Fat Freddy’s Drop are making their debut in South Africa on Friday at Trafalgar Park. Having travelled the world for nearly 20 years, collaborating with more than 1500 musicians, the Red Bull Music Academy Weekender now welcomes them to South Africa – and Africa – for the first time. Taking place until Sunday, the South African Red Bull Music Academy Weekender will host no less than 60 acts from across the country, continent and world, including New Zealand’s Fat Freddy’s Drop.

To ensure all Cape Town fans get to experience the sensational dub-reggae-soul-jazz-techno mash-up of Fat Freddy’s Drop, the band will perform for one night only on Friday in Cape Town at Trafalgar Park, Woodstock.

Chopper Reeds, aka Scott Towers, of Fat Freddy’s Drop says he and the band are excited to be playing in South Africa for the first time. “Fans can look forward to some Fat Freddy’s Drop classics as this’ll be the first time we’ve performed them in South Africa. And some box fresh vibes as we’ll be fighting fit after a four-week European tour just prior to the RBMA Weekender,” says Chopper Reeds.

While in the country, the band also plans to see the sights and hook up with some of the local heavyweights like Black Coffee.

Other acts in Johannesburg include Younsta, Vinny Da Vinci, Nigeria’s Patoranking and South African Academy alumni Jullian Gomes, Thibo Tazz, Trancemicsoul and Sebastiano Zanasi. And homegrown house heroes Culoe de Song, Black Coffee, Mafia Boys and Riky Rick bring the curtain down on Sunday. - Staff Writer
