Former world high jump champion Jacques Freitag, 30, has been released on bail following his arrest for alleged drug possession, Beeld reported yesterday.

Freitag’s lawyer, Fanie le Roux, said his client was released on bail of R500 on Monday after spending three days in jail for the possession of cat (methcathinone).

After he allegedly went through a red robot in Bronkhorstspruit on Friday, officers stopped and searched him and found the drug in the pocket of his pants.

“Through this incident we intend to show the world that he’s not a bad guy. He’s a person who made a mistake,” Le Roux said.

He added his client was not a habitual drug user, and that he had been caught with only a small amount of cat.
