FOUR armed men blew open a drop safe at a Sasol garage in Hindle Road, Blue Downs, yesterday and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police spokesperson Nolyiso Rwexana said the incident occurred at 2.10am.

She said the unidentified suspects had fled the scene in a white Mercedes. Wires connected to the petrol pumps had been damaged.

“No one has been arrested at this stage,” she said.

Garage manager Anadia Olivier said the four men had entered the premises through the back entrance and had parked where no one could see them. They had locked security guards in a kiosk and crawled inside.

“They then ordered everyone inside to lie down. They proceeded to the safe and attached an explosive device in a little bottle and lit it. Seconds later the safe blew apart.”

She said three of the men had collected the money, while a fourth stood guard with an AK-47. ”Luckily no one was injured,” she said.

Olivier said business had been severely affected.
