On the second day of confrontations, which included some residents setting alight their own shacks as a sign of protest, Transport Minister Dipuo and Human Settlements Deputy Minister Zou Kota-Fredericks visited the area yesterday.

About 1 000 residents started burning tyres and blocking entrances to roads at 7am yesterday.

Police officers used riot shields to push protesters off the road and in the scuffle arrested three people after negotiations with protesters failed.
