CAPE Town residents can expect better quality and speed of service from the city’s Water and Sanitation Department after its quality management systems were recently awarded two compliance certificates by the SA Bureau of Standards.
The city became the first municipality on the continent to receive both the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems and South African National Standard 990-2:2008 certification for the department’s call centre.
According to the bureau, the city has in the past experienced various challenges pertaining to the fresh water supply and sewerage systems.
“Faults in the fresh water supply and the sewerage systems need to be attended to as soon as possible,” said director Philemon Mashoko. To receive reports and dispatch repair crews to attend to problems, the department runs a Technical Operations Centre that operates 24 hours a day. – Staff Writer
