AFTER withdrawing from last year’s festival, Grammy Award-winning singer Jill Scott will be one of the headline acts at this year’s 14th Cape Town International Jazz Festival.
The festival will take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on April 5 and 6.
Rashid Lombard, festival director and chief executive of organisers espAfrika, said they were “delighted” that Scott would perform this year, after an “unexpected acting opportunity” caused her to miss last year’s festival.
Scott was on South African screens in 2009 playing the lead role in the TV series The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency.
Scott will join a line-up of just under 40 performers from 12 countries at the festival.
Other international performers include Grammy winners Norman Brown and Kirk Whalum from the US, the Buena Vista Social Club, British acid funk jazz group The Brand New Heavies, US hip hop artist Brother Ali and Swiss “zen-funk” quintet Ronin.
