A 27-year-old man was killed in Hanover Park when he was shot in the back and neck.

An hour later, and a few metres away from the crime scene, gunmen shot and wounded a 15-year-old in the head.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the motives for the shooting were being investigated. However, residents said it was gang-related.

No arrests had been made.

The 27-year-old was killed in St Lucia Court at about 9pm on Saturday.

“Medics declared him dead at the scene. At about 10pm a 15-year-old was shot and wounded in his head. He’s in a serious condition in hospital.

“The motive and cause of the shooting is unknown and it is yet to be determined if the incident was gang-related. Police are investigating a case of attempted murder,” Van Wyk said.

Hanover Park CPF spokesperson Ebrahim Abrahams said the shooting of the 15-year-old was part of a random shooting.

“The gangs were supposed to have made peace last Sunday, but the shootings still continue. We, however, can’t say the shootings are gang-related as it is being investigated by police,” Abrahams said.

He said the gangs that operated in the area included the Ghetto’s, Laughing Boys, Dollar Boys and the Americans.

“He urged the public to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of the perpetrators.

“All information will be treated as highly confidential,” Van Wyk said.
