Joshua Bell headlines concert series

SA TOUR: Joshua Bell

VIOLINIST Joshua Bell will open his SA tour with a Cape Town Concert Series recital.

The Bell recital, accompanied by the Stellenbosch Camerata, will take place on Saturday. Bell will perform the Bach Double Concerto with Refiloe Olifant, and Four Seasons by Vivaldi.

The third concert features International Tchaikovsky Competition prizewinning cellist Wolfgang Schmidt on September 29. With American pianist Bryan Wallick, Schmidt will play sonatas by Strauss in F, Debussy in D minor and one by Rachmaninov.

Steinway artist Konstantin Sherbakov will perform works he will record at the concert on October 27 for his new album. These include works by Liszt, Myakovsky and Rachmaninov.

The final concert of the season features violinist Alexander Gilman on November 17. Gilman, accompanied by Marina Seltenreich, will play works by Schnittke, Schumann, Matthijs van Dijk, Franck and Waxman.
