Springbok and Sharks loose forward Ryan Kankowski has been ordered to pay his former agents at In Touch Sports Management R322 500 in commission.

In 2010, Touch Sports Management took the player to the high court in Durban to fight for commission fees it was owed.

The case was later referred to arbitration by agreement between the parties.

Earlier on Wednesday, the arbitration process came to an end and Kankowski was ordered to pay his former management team over R300 000 in commission. He was also ordered to pay back interest on the amount from May 2010 until final settlement, as well as legal fees.

Kankowski had denied owing the company any money, claiming that the terms of the contract were “vague and confusing”.

He had also claimed that he contracted with a particular agent and not the management company, and that he was therefore entitled to terminate his contract when the agent left the company.

Riaan Venter, director at Gildenhuys Malatji Incorporated, the law firm acting for In Touch Sports Management, said they argued that “the terms of the contract were clear and that the money owed could therefore not be disputed”.

He said the “management company secured his contract with the Sharks and was therefore entitled to its commission in terms of the contract”.

The arbitator found in favour of In Touch Management and ordered Kankowski to pay the outstanding amount.
