Cape Town - THERE are still a handful of tickets left for the Bon Jovi and Justin Bieber concerts which are expected to draw crowds of up to 100 000 to the Cape Town Stadium tonight and tomorrow.

“For the Bieber concert we still have a handful of general admissions tickets we are making available (today) and we expect them to be snapped up quickly. General admission and standing tickets for the Bon Jovi concert are still available,” Big Concerts managing director Justin van Wyk said yesterday.

The two concerts combined were expected to be attended by 90 000 to 100 000 people.

Fans of 1980s rock band Bon Jovi and of Canadian teenage singing sensation Bieber have been advised to get to the stadium early as traffic congestion could be expected because bus drivers were still on strike and the World Economic Forum (WEF) was in session at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Van Wyk said.

“It’s all systems go. Get to the stadium early. We have two support acts for both the Bon Jovi and Bieber concerts.”

Ticket holders were asked to adhere to the rules. Minors had to be accompanied by adults, proof of identity was required

when buying alcohol and umbrellas were barred.

Some rain was expected.

“We have 3 000 people working at the events. Bon Jovi and Justin Bieber are arguably the biggest names in the music business and it is a unique opportunity for Cape Town to have both. It’s a memorable week for the city,” he said.

Mayco member for tourism, events and marketing Grant Pascoe said the concerts, the WEF and a match between Ajax Cape Town and Liverpool on May 21 meant a good month for Cape Town.

“The WEF is held from May 8 to 10 and 23 heads of state plus 800 delegates and support staff are going to be here.”
