The contradictory evidence of former SABC chairman Ben Ngubane has been questioned by members of the ad hoc committee, who are urging Parliament to investigate the possibility of removing him from the Eskom board.

MPs across parties said on Tuesday Ngubane had given contradictory evidence when he came to give evidence two weeks ago. They said the portfolio committee on public enterprises must investigate him.

EFF MP Fana Mokoena said they must look at all the laws governing entities, including the Eskom legislation on the conduct of its chairperson.

Ngubane is currently the chairman of Eskom. He served as SABC board chairman between 2010 and 2013, and quit following infighting at the public broadcaster.

ANC MP Hlomane Chauke said the role and conduct of Ngubane during his testimony left a lot to be desired. He said they wanted this matter to be investigated fully, and the laws governing entities on the conduct of their board members.

The inquiry is expected to be completed soon when Parliament adopts the recommendations and final report of the ad hoc committee.
