The Department of Water and Sanitation in the Western Cape wishes to inform citizens about the latest dam levels across the province.

According to the latest dam levels assessments of April 24, the combined average dam levels for the Western Cape Water Supply System are at 22.90%, a notable decline as compared to 29.32% the same time last year.

“Our dams continue to experience over 1% week-by-week decline, which is a concern to water security,” says Ashia Petersen, acting head of the Department of Water and Sanitation, Western Cape.

According to weather services, the coming few days in the Western Cape will be very hot, causing more evaporation and putting more strain on our limited water resources.

“We appeal to all the water users to conserve water,” says Petersen.

As a reminder, water restrictions will remain until the dams fill up to 85%.

The Department of Water and Sanitation will continue to monitor the situation.

“Water is life, Sanitation is Dignity”.
