FINANCE Minister Pravin Gordhan on Tuesday refused National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head Shaun Abrahams's offer to make representations for fraud charges he faces.

This refusal follows the minister’s legal team having in the past repeatedly requested an opportunity for Gordhan to make written and/or oral representations before making a decision on whether to prosecute him or not.

Gordhans Lawyer Tebogo Malatjie said Abrahams had turned them down on several occasions.

Abrahams changed his tune after he met with Members of Parliament last week, but Malatjie said they were not prepared to make an official complaint this time.

Gordhan is charged with fraud after he approved the early retirement of former SA Revenue Service deputy commissioner Ivan Pillay.

Gordhan will appear in court next month.
