AN “ALL out” campaign to make everyone in Syria and Turkey aware of Shiraaz Mohamed’s disappearance is under way.

Gift of the Givers founder Imtiaz Sooliman, who is spearheading the campaign abroad, said there were various protests “simply to create an awareness about Shiraaz, that he is missing and that we require assistance in finding him”.

“His picture is being circulated in various parts of the country.

“People are physically driving through different areas to try to find him.

“Now it’s an all-out campaign to make everyone is aware of Shiraaz’s disappearance.

“Even the local media, Orient TV, has covered it.”

A night vigil to pray for Mohamed’s safe return was set to be held at the Lenasia South Civic Centre.

Mohamed’s ex-wife, Shirley Brijlal, said the family was going through a hard time as there was no news of his whereabouts.

Mohamed was abducted in Syria last week.

“It’s becoming scarier. His mum and sisters will not be attending the night vigil. They send their heartfelt gratitude and hope the vigil and the public support will add momentum to the efforts being made to find Shiraaz.

“It is all becoming too overwhelming for myself and Shiraaz’s family.

“What do we say every time someone asks how we are doing? We are paralysed with worry and concern for Shiraaz.

“All we can do is hold on to our Creator and know that His will is being done to bring Shiraaz safely back to us.”

The family thanked South Africans and the media for their support.

SA aid group Gift of the Givers said Mohamed was kidnapped last Tuesday on a “relatively safe route” near a medical facility operated by Gift of the Givers.

The kidnappers put guns to the heads of two aid workers who were with Mohamed and then blindfolded all three and drove around for an hour, said Sooliman.

The gunmen freed the two aid workers, but said they would question Mohamed to clear up an unspecified “misunderstanding” and would release him at a Gift of the Givers facility after two days, according to Sooliman.

There has been no further communication from the kidnappers.
