SCHOOLGOING Beliebers – fans of pop star Justin Bieber – will be expected to be in their classrooms the morning after his Cape Town concert on May 8 – a Wednesday.

Schools in Norway recently planned to rearrange their exam schedules to accommodate pupils wanting to attend Bieber concerts.

Five schools had been given permission by the education department to rearrange exam timetables, Education Minister Kristin Halvorsen reportedly said.

The Norwegian schools, which fear pupils will be out late and miss school in the morning, plan to work around Bieber’s concerts which fall on April 16, 17 and 18.

But there will be no such luck for Cape Town fans as the Western Cape Education Department saidon Sunday it had decided against reshuffling school dates around the show.

The concert in Cape Town will be in the middle of the school week.

“We have no problem with the kids attending the concert; that is their choice and that of their parents,” said Paddy Attwell, WCED spokesman.

Attwell confirmed there were no alterations to the curriculum with the start of the new school term on Monday.

As for pupils who might choose to miss school because of the concert at Cape Town Stadium, Attwell said schools would deal with them internally, based on their respective codes of conduct.
