It has been a good few months since advocate Gerrie Nel left the NPA to
join AfriForum’s unit that is going to pursue private prosecutions outside of the NPA.

In interviews he has given, Nel has indicated that the unit is going to go after high-profile cases which the NPA had declined to pursue for one reason or another.

He indicated that each case would be carefully considered and researched and that a team would be hand-picked to tackle each matter.

He said the unit would carefully look at those high-profile public-interest cases that the NPA may have declined to prosecute for political reasons.

I would like to suggest to Nel that his unit’s first case should be the prosecution of Jacob Zuma on 783 charges of, inter alia, corruption and state capture. If ever there was a case to kick off Nel’s private prosecution career, this is it.

Nel, the country needs you to urgently act on this matter before the rot sets in too deep!!
