The Grassy Park CPF noted with concern media reports alleging that Neighbourhood Watch members had beaten up a suspect in a cellphone robbery incident.
While waiting for the facts in the matter to be verified, we wish to make it clear that the CPF continues to impress upon our NHW members to treat all people with dignity. We are grateful for the sacrifices made by the NHWs to keep our areas safe and crime free.
We call on the police to investigate the matter. If any Neighbourhood Watch member is implicated stern action should be taken. On the other hand we need the investigation to clear the name of NHWs who continue to do a great community service.
The CPF will not tolerate any lawlessness on the part of our members.
We urge residents who are assaulted by NHW members to lay charges and allow the law to take its course.
