Archbishop Desmond Tutu enjoyed a high-profile birthday when he turned 80 on Friday October 7.
True to form, the Archbishop appeared tireless as he rushed from one event to the other over three days.
First up was a book launch on Thursday at which Bono sang a special tribute to the Arch, followed by a Eucharist service then a party on Friday, to the inaugural Desmond Tutu Peace Lecture at the University of Western Cape with a live link-up with the Dalai Lama in Delhi on Saturday.
Still controversial at 80, Tutu continued to make waves and hog the headlines even though he officially retired a year ago.
The Cape Times compiled a special 12-page supplement on his birthday.
