A PREGNANT woman was transported to hospital for a check-up after she and three of her friends were rescued after they were trapped in a cove, the NSRI said.

The incident occurred on Saturday night at Dappat se Gat, Kogel Bay, near Gordon’s Bay, NSRI
spokesperson Craig Lambinon said yesterday.

Two men and two women, aged between 18 and 30, had been out
fishing for the day, but were later unable to return because the exit to the cove had been cut off by the rising tide.

Lambinon said when they got cold, they raised the alarm and the NSRI Gordon’s Bay duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority.

NSRI Gordons Bay dispatched a rescue team and Gordons Bay Security ambulance services and Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services were activated, Lambinon said.

“They are three 18-year-olds, a male and two females, and a 30-year-old man.

"One of the females is pregnant and they are from Gordon’s Bay and Durbanville.”

“Once the tide had dropped, NSRI teams were able to walk them out from the cove safely, and although they were not injured in the incident, fears were that they may have suffered hypothermia waiting for the tide to drop enough to get them out,” said Lambinon.
