DISGRUNTLED residents from Sweet Home Farm informal settlement and Samora Machel say the city has ignored their concerns over a lack of services and they are turning to the provincial government, with a march to the provincial legislature today.

“We are fed up at the empty promises of our ANC councillor and the DA mayor. They promise service delivery and then when it comes time to deliver, they ignore us,” said the chairman of the residents’ committee, Siyamboleka James.

In August, nearly 500 residents from the settlement closed several major roads, demanding sanitation, electricity and housing.

The city had been unable to deliver some services because the land had been privately owned. But the city has since purchased the land and promised to roll out services immediately.
